Donald Trump’s family business accelerated its recruitment of overseas employees on temporary visas this year, even as his administration was placing obstacles for other businesses wanting to do the identical, a report released Thursday stated.
Based on information from the US Department of Labor, the business aimed to hire at least nearly 200 foreign workers in the coming year for temporary positions at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, golf facilities and his Virginia winery.
The quantity of requests for H-2A and H-2B visas covering staff including servers, office assistants, cleaning staff, culinary employees and farm workers was the record filed by the company, and increased from 121 in 2021, when Trump’s first term concluded.
It was also the fifth time in a decade that the former president had sought to hire more than 100 overseas workers for seasonal jobs at Mar-a-Lago, based on available data.
The disclosure comes amid a crackdown on immigration laws by his administration that has included the introduction of a $100,000 fee on H1-B visas; increased review of the activities of the 55 million people who already hold American work permits; and restrictive new rules for foreign students and journalists.
In total, the Trump Organization sought to hire 566 foreign laborers over the five years the former president has been in the White House, from 2017 to 2021 and during 2025.
Significantly, Trump was questioned by certain in the GOP this week for remarks justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill certain positions.
“You cannot just say a country is entering, going to invest billions to construct a facility, and going to take people off an unemployment line who have been unemployed in years, and they’re going to start making their missiles. It isn’t feasible that well,” he told a interviewer after she suggested that foreign workers undercut the pay of American employees.
The White House refused a request for response, and the business did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
