The relatives of teens missing after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and requesting clues about their children via social media.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated video reveal the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the victims of the disaster, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and injured another 119. Authorities stated on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to identify the final individuals.
In the waiting period, relatives have been taking to social media to appeal for clues about their loved ones who were at the bar that fateful night.
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.
She added that some of his peers had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its young people have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who embodied passion and authentic values."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has indicated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him told me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his teachers said, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, coupled with great responsibility. He would frequently ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
