This historic hillside village, a ancient hillside village in southern Spain, about a short drive from Granada, is the inspiring backdrop for this art retreat. Painters of every skill level – even beginners – will discover how to plan and create non-representational pieces. Some time will be spent outside, working on guided exercises out in nature. These initial charcoal drawings and paintings will then be worked on in the studio, with participants producing several abstract landscapes in acrylics to be shown in the local community. The group has exclusive access of the hotel, which is set around an open courtyard and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the hills. This Mediterranean culinary holiday, based at a villa by the river in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. This energetic camp is an energizing, welcoming weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a party-style warm-up session, followed by three hour-and-a-half classes covering various urban dance forms, then an 60-minute freestyle session to demonstrate new moves. Writer and lecturer Greg Mosse runs the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers topics including plot, character development, setting and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the start and finish of the week. The retreat is based at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages surround a central garden with a pool (companions are welcome to come along). The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of programs on sustainability: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This two-day course will help participants learn the basics of beekeeping, study the biology of bees and discover their ecological importance.
